Aloe vera juice may help colon - but don't make a habit of it

...Cons: Most benefits are anecdotal; there is little substantive evidence to support internal benefits.

Even in the Royal London Hospital trial, people were not cured and doctors concluded the juice could not replace conventional treatments unless a larger study proved it effective.

The long-term use of any laxative can cause excessive loss of potassium.

Pregnant women or those breast-feeding should avoid it because the juice can cause uterine contractions and the juice could be passed onto the child, whose immature digestive system can't handle aloe.

Bottom line: Regular periodic use may help keep the colon clean, but it shouldn't be used on an ongoing basis.
