Researchers found that NSAIDs and Cox-2 inhibitors did not cause flare-ups if used for brief periods of time.

The Cox-2 inhibitors actually reduced the likelihood of relapse.

One study by three London medical schools tracked more than 200 patients, while the other, organized by the Mayo Clinic, followed patients at 34 centers in the United States, Argentina, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Russia, Turkey and Sweden.

The research was published in the American Gastroenterological Society's journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
