Recent developments include: * MLN518: Based on data of MLN518 as a single agent in the relapsed treatment setting, the Company initiated a phase I/II, open-label, multi- center study of MLN518 in combination with standard induction chemotherapy in patients with newly diagnosed acute myelogenous leukemia.

Millennium also entered into a multi-year research agreement with the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program, a branch of the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health, to explore the potential of MLN518 in a variety of tumor types.

The Company announced several additional pipeline advances in the fourth quarter 2005: * MLN3701: In December, the Company initiated a phase I trial in healthy volunteers with MLN3701, an oral CCR1 inhibitor, to test safety, tolerability, as well as pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of the molecule.

* MLN8054: In November, the Company initiated a phase I trial in advanced malignancies with MLN8054, an oral, selective Aurora A kinase inhibitor discovered by Millennium.

This trial will examine the safety and activity of MLN8054 in a range of solid and hematological tumors.

Seattle signs Pettyjohn of Armada

...Pettyjohn, 29, who was a second-round pick of the Detroit Tigers in 1998 out of Fresno State, pitched in 16 games and made nine starts for the Tigers in 2001.

He lost 65 pounds in a three-month span in the winter and spring of 2002 and underwent four procedures, culminating with the removal of his colon in March of that year.

After he was released by the Tigers in 2003, and the A's and Giants in 2004, he went 10-2 with a 3.92 ERA for the Armada of the Golden Baseball League last summer, despite missing five starts because of a twisted ankle.

He struck out 73 batters, walked 23 and allowed 109 hits in 110 innings for Long Beach.

The Mariners signed Pettyjohn to a minor league contract that did not include an invitation to major league spring training.

Mariners scouts, however, were impressed with Pettyjohn's command during winter throwing sessions.

The Mariners likely will convert Pettyjohn to a relief specialist and give him the opportunity to start at double-A San Antonio.

If anything, Coco's visit is an attempt to raise awareness of it.

It will certainly get people talking about it.And nurse educators from the hospital will be at Coco's side to field health questions from the public. The Colossal Colon was created by Molly McMaster, a colon cancer survivor who was diagnosed on her 23rd birthday, with help and support from Glens Falls Hospital in Glens Falls, N.Y.The project is dedicated to the memory of Molly's friend, Amanda Sherwood Roberts, who lost her battle with colon cancer at age 27.

McMaster and Roberts were both dedicated to teaching everyone about colorectal cancer, and now McMaster is doing it for both of them.

Television's Katie Couric, who has promoted awareness of the disease since her husband died from it, asked McMaster if she could come up with something crazy for National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month that the "Today" Show could cover. The Colossal Colon was born.Coco, which was built by Adirondack Scenic Inc.
